The Vršovice men start the new season with a new coach. Experienced Pavel Farář joins the Sokol bench, bringing experience from the top leagues and international handball. After nearly six years, he returns to men's handball and will work with the Men “A” team, which finished 10th in the 1st League last season.
What are his ambitions? What does he expect from the new team and what does he want to build with the players? Why does he like working with young players and what can his experience from top-level handball and beach handball bring to the team? We spoke to Pavel Farář before the start of the first round of the 1st League.
Pavel, how are you looking forward to working with the Vršovice men's team?
It's a return to men's handball for me after nearly 6 years, so I'm definitely looking forward to it.
You have a lot of experience from the top leagues and international competitions, what convinced you to accept our club's offer?
I left Plzeň quite abruptly, so I was more planning a holiday 😊. Then I was approached with an offer to coach Sokol Vršovice. After we discussed our ideas, we agreed quite quickly.
You bring valuable experience from top-level handball, what do you want to bring to our team?
I think mainly that results come from hard work 😊. That has always been confirmed to me everywhere.
What kind of team do you want to build in Vršovice? How should the Vršovice men present themselves on the court?
After last season, some experienced players left and the club is mainly betting on youth. Those who know me know that I don't mind that at all. I would almost say the opposite. I like working with young players who want to. As for the game, I would like to try to get as close as possible to modern handball. Of course, within our possibilities.
You have already completed the preparation with the lads for this season, what has surprised and pleased you the most?
I have to say that I really like the commitment in training. So far, I have nothing to complain about and I hope it will last as long as possible. It will be important to believe in what we do even if the results do not come immediately.
What is still missing from the team to move in the higher echelons of the table?
As I mentioned, several experienced players left. The youngsters will have to make up for this with fighting spirit and commitment. In essence, this year it will be almost a new team. Others will have to take on the responsibility. It is a long-distance run, but I believe we are going the right way.
What are the team's ambitions after your arrival, which finished 10th in the 1st League last season?
I would like us to move in the middle of the table. But it will be incredibly difficult. Last season showed the balance of this competition.
You also have experience in coaching women's handball. Do you notice any difference in coaching men and women?
Almost everyone asks me that 😊. I can't say it's better or worse. It's just DIFFERENT 😊 and it would probably be a separate article.
How can this experience help you in your further coaching career?
I take it that it was another valuable experience in passing on information. I certainly don't take it as something that would harm me or set me back.
You also play beach handball, what attracts you to it, what do you enjoy about it?
Beach handball is now a top sport. The level and number of opponents improves and expands year by year. I like its dynamics, speed and tactical thinking. I think it is a very good opportunity for young players to improve and expand some skills and abilities.
Thank you for the interview and we wish you lots of success!
